The University of Northern Iowa is featured in the Princeton Review's "Guide to 361 Green Colleges," ranking No. 41 among the 361 colleges that are considered the most environmentally responsible colleges in the nation. UNI received a "green" rating of 98 out of 99.
In partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the "Guide to 361 Green Colleges" recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate an above-average commitment to sustainability. Ratings are based on a combination of school-reported data, student opinion, whether students have a quality of life on campus that is healthy and sustainable, how well a school is preparing students for employment in an increasingly green economy and environmentally responsible school policies.
"Much of UNI's excellent rating in the Princeton Review can be attributed to the numerous student driven initiatives that have resulted in institutional changes," said Eric O'Brien, UNI's sustainability director. "From their excitement to improve campus to their genuine interest in getting involved, students are powerful forces in UNI's sustainability efforts."
