General Manager – Dalumi Group

"I have been able to apply what I learned in the UNI MBA program in Hong Kong to my job. For example, during the Management Information Systems course, a discussion about how business models are changing through the use of technology made me think about the relationships between our customers, our salespeople, and the company. Thinking about how to enhance these relationships is as important part of my job as a manager.

Two years later, the result of that thinking is a new web-based system that allows our customers a direct view of our inventory. This system gives our salespeople more time to cultivate relationships with new customers and handle the more complicated relationships that a web-based system cannot replace. It was exciting to have that moment in the classroom where the discussion allowed me to see the opportunity. It is even more exciting to see the system being used."

M. T. Chan

General Manager – Rust Oleum Division, TML Ltd.

"After completing my undergraduate studies, I worked nearly 15 years before deciding it was time to gain more knowledge to effectively manage my business. UNI’s intense one-year study schedule is a definite advantage, especially for students working in a fast-paced business world like Hong Kong.

Additional strengths of the UNI MBA program are the quality and quantity of materials covered. From my studies, I was able to develop a framework that helps me anticipate, analyze and respond more effectively before making business decisions, instead of relying on common sense alone. The skills I gained and the topics covered in UNI’s program are definitely useful in my daily work."

Stanley Chau ’08

Sales Manager – Abbott Laboratories Ltd.

"The UNI MBA program is open and energetic with an American teaching style. Professors encourage us to share our experiences and voice our opinions, even when we are wrong. In one case study, Dr. Mitra, who teaches Managing Human Resources to be globally competitive, used 30 minutes to let us talk about how we analyze a situation. He encouraged us to use our own way of thinking and to share with our classmates. However, all of us used the wrong way to analyze! Dr. Mitra finally gave us the right direction and said that mistakes can help us improve. I am very impressed with this way of teaching, which I had never seen in the Hong Kong education system – spending 30 minutes listening to the wrong answers! This greatly widened my horizons. I will never forget what I learned in his class."

Associate – W. L. Gore & Associates Ltd.

"One of the unique aspects of UNI’s program is that all students have the same class schedule. This helps us develop tight relationships. In fact, many of my classmates have become my good friends!

Sharing and learning about different perspectives from my classmates has helped me think outside of the box. Also, the more than 30 solid contact hours that we have with professors is crucial. This interactive sharing is something you cannot get from a book or distance learning."

Tony Leung ’07

Senior Business Manager – Lei Shing Hong Credit Ltd.

"Through UNI’s program, you can earn an accredited MBA from the U.S.A. within 1.5 years without stopping your career. Just be prepared to work hard and study hard! UNI’s program helped me analyze problems from different angles, strengthened my negotiating power, and enriched my writing skills and abilities. Also, the Business Capstone Experience provided good, practical experience on running a business instead of just writing about it in a graduate dissertation.

I made a lot of good friends in the program who work in different industries, and I can get advice from them in their areas of expertise. Overall, I became a person with more confidence and am prepared for any challenge ahead. I am proud to be a graduate of UNI’s MBA program."

Peter Liew ’05

Manager, Operational Control – Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels Ltd. Hong Kong

"My first academic training as a management accountant had served me well in the first 15 years of my career in the hospitality industry. Looking forward, I reckoned my remaining working life required not only academic updates, but to experience and understand the learning environment of my future team members.

It took me almost two years to find a program to suit my needs. Syllabus, class timetable, evaluation methods, accreditation, etc. were my criteria. The UNI MBA program fits my quest well. The MBA program provided me with a wider business vocabulary and a more structured thinking process. Further, I find more time to appreciate life and manage my work."

Alex Wong ’06

Sales and Services Manager – Commercial Banking, HSBC

"The business capstone simulation is a wonderful experience for MBA students. It provides a user-friendly platform for learners to practice business strategies without actually taking risks in the real-world business environment. In order to succeed in the capstone, we spent a great deal of time studying the fundamentals of the simulation program. Believing that practice makes perfect, we attempted to practice the rehearsal rounds many times to test out different strategies and analyze their outcomes. Through many trials and errors, we reached an optimal strategy, which gave us an edge over many of them competing teams. The learning process gave me a deeper understanding of the many business theories and management concepts that I gained in the UNI MBA program."

"Receiving my MBA through UNI’s Hong Kong program was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I was impressed with every aspect of the program; the quality of teaching, the courses, the 12-month time schedule, manageable class times, and sharing and forming friendships with my classmates.

To keep those relationships going, we recently set up an alumni association in Hong Kong for UNI MBA graduates. Events are held approximately every two months, ranging from karaoke to playing soccer. The main spirit, however, is to promote UNI, the MBA program, and help alumni make connections to help them succeed in the business world."
